CooperVision Launches Avaira Vitality in the U.S.

Yesterday, CooperVision, Inc. announced it was launching its Avaira Vitality™ sphere and toric two-week contact lenses in the United States.

These new lenses are reportedly a superior version of CooperVision's Avaira® two-week contact lenses. They are made from a new material called fanfilcon A, which features a higher water content — 55 percent — plus a high level of oxygen permeability and transmissibility. Additionally, UV protection as reportedly been improved to Class I, which means the lenses block more than 90 percent of UVA and 99 percent of UVB rays.

Avaira Vitality sphere lenses feature powers from +8.00D to -12.00D; a modulus of 0.6MPa; a DK of 90; a Dk/t of 110; a base curve of 8.4mm; and a diameter of 14.2mm. And the toric lenses will be available in a power range of +8.00D to -10.000D, with cylinder options of 0.75D, 1.25D, 1.75D, and 2.25D in axes from 10° to 180° in 10° steps. They have a modulus of 0.6MPa, a DK of 90, and a Dk/t of 82. The base curve is 8.5mm and the diameter is 14.5mm.

CooperVision will reportedly begin distribution of Avaira Vitality sphere fit sets and lenses in the U.S. this month. Toric will be available beginning in December in a limited parameter range, with a full power range planned for 2017.
