 New Study Finds Blue Light Decreases Sleep Quality

A new study by researchers at the University of Houston (UH) College of Optometry has found blue light emitted from digital devices lessens sleep quality, and melatonin levels increase when blue light is blocked.

For the study, 22 participants in ages ranging from 17 to 42 reportedly wore short wavelength-blocking glasses three hours before bedtime for two weeks, while still performing their nightly digital routine. Researchers reportedly found these participants had a 58 percent increase in their nighttime melatonin levels. Additionally, the study participants reported sleeping better, falling asleep faster, and increased their sleep duration by 24 minutes a night.

The study was recently published in the journal Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics.
