 The Lens Update — June 6, 2017

Here's a look at some of the latest news regarding the ophthalmic and contact lens industries. 

  • Valley Contax recently announced it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. FDA for its Custom Stable line of scleral contact lenses indicated for the therapeutic management of several ocular conditions (see press release below).
  • Visionary Optics has signed an exclusive agreement with Spectrum International to distribute the Europa Scleral lens in the South America, Latin Central America and Caribbean markets (see press release below).
  • VISION EASE recently introduced two new designs to its VISION EASE Photochromic Lens line -- the new D35 bifocal and 7x28 trifocal lenses designed to enhance indoor and outdoor vision with faster fadeback and activation.
  • Shamir Insight, Inc. announced it is removing all molded product offerings and, as of July 1st, will only offer semi-finished single vision lenses, focusing solely on advanced Freeform® designs (see press release below).
  • Alcon recently launched new U.S.-specific packaging for DAILIES® AquaComfort Plus® (DACP) spherical contact lenses in 90-, 30- and 5-packs to assist patients with proper lens wear and care (see press release below).  The new packaging reportedly features patient-friendly educational elements, including detailed insertion and removal illustrations and a toll-free patient helpline and email address.
  • Safilens plans to offer a preview launch of its new daily toric fusion 1day astigma lens at the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Clinical Conference & Exhibition later this week. The new lens for astigmatism reportedly features an innovative design and expands the company's family of daily contact lenses that include its fusiontechnology™ system (see press release below).
  • SynergEyes, Inc. recently announced it has expanded the Tangible Hydra-PEG coating to UltraHealth hybrid contact lenses. The polymer coating developed by Tangible Science also recently became available on its Duette and Duette Progressive lenses.
  • Luxury eyeglass lens producer SeikoVision and inbound marketing agency Mojo Media Labs were recently named Marketer of the Year for Healthcare Marketing by the American Marketing Association’s Dallas-Fort Worth chapter (see press release below). Mojo Media Labs reportedly won the award for a blue light infographic it had developed for SeikoVision.
