TFOS Presents DEWS II Recommendations, Plans to Publish Report

The Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) presented the conclusions and recommendations of the TFOS Dry Eye Workshop II (DEWS II™) during a special session of the recent Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting, and plans to publish the report to be distributed to scientists, clinicians and patients worldwide.

The TFOS DEWS II was reportedly designed to achieve a global consensus concerning multiple aspects of dry eye disease, and is the sequel to the original TFOS DEWS™ from 10 years ago. The objectives of DEWS II were reportedly to update the definition, classification and diagnosis of dry eye, critically evaluate the epidemiology, pathophysiology, mechanism, and impact of this disorder, address its management and therapy, and develop recommendations for the design of clinical trials to assess pharmaceutical interventions for dry eye treatment.

According to TFOS, a DEWS II report will be published by The Ocular Surface and distributed to scientists, clinicians, and patients worldwide.  A downloadable version of the document and additional material will be available on the TFOS website, TearFilm.org, and translations of the report will be offered in numerous languages, including but not limited to English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
