Primary Eyecare Network Offering Several Educational Events This Summer
ALAMEDA, Calif. (April 24, 2017) – Primary Eyecare Network (PEN), a division of ABB OPTICAL GROUP, is pleased to offer eye care practitioners five educational events this summer. PEN's schedule includes:
Billing the Tough Stuff
When: June 7, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PT
Where: Online webinar
Cost: Free for PEN members; $15 for non-members
About: Led by certified professional coder Ann Bina of CS Eye, an optical billing and compliance firm, this webinar will review commonly denied claims, filing appeals, resubmitting denied claims and post-op cataract billing.
Frame Adjusting
When: June 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Alameda, Calif.
Cost: $110 for PEN members; $155 for non-members
About: This interactive workshop will offer participants a fundamental, practical, hands-on frame adjusting experience, covering front-to-back, custom adjustment techniques on both plastic and metal frames as well as trouble shooting and problem adjustments. The workshop will be led by Mindi Lewis, an American Board of Opticianry certified optician (ABOC) and fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry (FNAO). It is worth two ABO credit hours.

When: June 22, 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Alameda, Calif.
Cost: $110 for PEN members; $155 for non-members
About: Also worth two ABO credit hours and led by Mindi Lewis, ABOC, FNAO, this informative workshop, recommended for all optical staff, will help participants become an expert frame stylist and give tips on how to find the best eyewear for their patients’ vision needs.
Center for Paraoptometric Education
When: July 10-12, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
Location: Alameda, Calif.
Cost: $520 per person for PEN members; $675 per person for non-members
About: Led by American Board of Opticianry certified optician and certified paraoptometric Mary Schmidt, the three-day CPE workshop will cover fundamental optics; prescription verification and troubleshooting; lens types and materials; frames, including styling, adjusting and repairs; selling skills, and more.
Risk Assessment
When: August 2, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PT
Where: Online Webinar
Cost: Free for PEN members; $15 for non-members
About: Led by CS Eye Certified Professional Coder Ann Binna, this webinar will cover risk assessments that are required to meet compliance guidelines and meaningful use attestations. Participants will learn what is needed for risk assessment and how to manage identified risks.
