 AAO Announces New Name for Foundation, Reveals Academy 2017 Program Highlights

The American Academy of Optometry (AAO) recently announced a new name for its Foundation, and revealed highlights of the educational program for Academy 2017 Chicago.

The American Optometric Foundation has officially changed its name to the American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF). The Foundation Board of Directors reportedly voted to changed the name of the Foundation — which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year — for the purpose of better aligning and branding the Academy's Foundation.

Additionally, AAO recently announced highlights of the educational program for Academy 2017 Chicago, scheduled to take place October 11-14, 2017, at McCormick Place.

Highlights include the Plenary Session, "Today's Research, Tomorrow's Practice®: The Eye as a Mirror of the Brain," on Wednesday, October 11th where leading researchers will reportedly present their thinking on the role of the retina in brain diseases such as Parkinson's Alzheimer's, and multiple sclerosis. And on Thursday, October 12th, the Monroe J. Hirsch Symposium, "Precision Medicine and the Future of Eye Care," will explore developments that led to the new Precision Medicine Initiative of the National Institutes of Health.

According to AAO, more than 270 hours of lectures and workshops have been scheduled for Academy 2017, offering attendees up to 33 hours of CE. Registration and housing is scheduled to open Monday, April 24, 2017.
