UMSL Optometry Leading Research on Blue Light Blocking Lenses

A professor and student from University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) School of Optometry are leading research on new lenses used to block harmful blue light, helping to lay groundwork for future discoveries and more protective measures.

According to an article on UMSL's blog, the research team was tasked with investigating the impact lenses made by Japanese company JINS Optical had on blocking blue light waves emitted by digital devices. The team reportedly found the lenses helped limit discomfort that can result from overexposure to digital light.

According to researchers, their findings are significant as this was the first study of its kind to focus specifically on a North American population.

The research was recently published in the journal Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
