KYCO Receives Technology Award for 3D Virtual Science Initiative

The Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO) and University of Pikeville's IT department were recently named the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s winners of the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) Innovational Educational Technology Award for KYCO’s "Interactive 3-D Virtual Science Initiative."

Through the initiative, students can use 3D interactive technology to learn about complex concepts, such as the intricacies of the eye and neurologic structures. UPIKE optometry students reportedly use interactive 3D computers in the gross anatomy lab, allowing them to perform virtual dissections at their own pace and style. And the 3D designs are reportedly being used for anatomy lectures and classroom ocular anatomy presentations as well.
