Fuel3D Announces 3D Scanning Collaboration, Launches Public Trials of 3D Mirror Scanner

Fuel3D recently announced it is teaming up with FittingBox for a new 3D scanning collaboration for in-store try-on systems, and started public trials of its mirror-based 3D scanning system built in development with Sfered.

For the 3D scanning collaboration with FittingBox, Fuel3D has reportedly built a 3D scanning enhancement for use with FittingBox's OWIZ in-store virtual try-on product. With the 3D scanning enhancement, patients can reportedly change between frame styles and view themselves in the frames in real time. The system tracks head movements to provide customers with an augmented reality view of how they would actually look wearing the frames. Additionally, the system captures key measurements needed to create frames.

Fuel3D and FittingBox reportedly plan to roll-out trials of the new technology to retail outlets.

And Fuel3D and eyewear technology developer Sfered have begun public trials for a new mirror-based 3D scanning system to support the deployment and fitting of custom eyewear. The 3D scanner is incorporated into the mirror, providing highly accurate facial scanning that collects all metrics opticians need for eye fitting and production. The scanner is capable of capturing facial data in 0.1 seconds and takes pupillary distance, nose bridge width, facial width, and the distance to ear.
