 American Optometric Foundation Announces Winners

The American Optometric Foundation (AOF) has recently announced a number of award winners in the areas of low vision, contact lenses and primary eye care.

Dr. Erin M. Kenny, a low vision rehabilitation resident at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, was recently named the recipient of the 2016 Alfred A. Rosenbloom, Jr., Low Vision Residency Award. The award is intended to promote the practice and development of the field of low vision by providing incentive and support to sustain talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and commitment to practice, research, and education.

Dr. Shannon K. Leon, primary care/ocular disease resident at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry, is the recipient of the 2016 Douglas W. Hopkins Primary Care Residency Award. The award is intended to promote the practice and development of the field of primary eye care optometry by providing incentive and support to talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and commitment to further clinical experience, research, and education.

Dr. Caitlin J. Morrison, cornea and contact lens resident at the State University of New York College of Optometry, has been named the recipient of the 2016 Bert C. & Lydia M. Corwin Residency Award. The award is intended to promote the practice and development of the field of contact lenses by providing incentive and support to talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and commitment to practice, research, and education.

And AOF recently announced the 2016 recipients of the Fredric Rosemore Low Vision Educational Grants, which are designed to enable institutions to provide care, support personnel, student education, or provide equipment directly related to the field of low vision. The winners are Dr. Richard Jamara of the New England College of Optometry and Dr. Tammy Labreche of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science.
