Study Finds Lenses in Myopes Do Not Compensate for Changes in the Eye Over Time

A new study has found in myopes, the lens of the eye does not compensate for growth or other changes to the eye's structure over time.

Researchers reportedly analyzed follow-up data on 367 myopes, who over a 14-year period underwent detailed measurement of eye structures and assessment of refractive error, with a goal of assessing changes to the "internal astigmatism" of the eye over time. After comparing the data to a group of 204 subjects without myopia, researchers found internal astigmatism did not change as the shape of the eye changed, instead remaining relatively stable over time.

The study was recently published in the journal Optometry & Vision Science.
