 Researchers Develop Cataract-Reducing Eye Drops

Scientists at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) have reportedly developed a nanoparticle matrix that could be used in eye drops to both prevent and treat cataracts.

According to LSU, the nanoparticle matrix would be used to deliver hydrophobic lutein — a naturally occurring yellow pigment found in the eye. The matrix helps stabilize the lutein so it can be delivered to the eye lens, and the extra stabilization would also help the lutein stay in the lens to help prevent future damage.
