USC Roski Eye Institute Publishes Largest Eye Study Among Chinese Americans

Researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) Roski Eye Institute recently released a new study that is reportedly the largest ophthalmology study among those with Chinese ancestry living in the U.S.

Funded by the National Eye Institute, the Chinese American Eye Study (CHES) details key findings such as a higher percentage (85 percent) of neovascular or "wet" AMD than geographic atrophy or "dry" AMD (15 percent), which is reportedly almost the direct opposite of that found in Caucasian and other ethnic groups. Additionally, the study found those with diabetes (17.4 percent) were three times more likely than those without the disease to have significant visual impairment.

The findings were recently published in JAMA Ophthalmology.
