Scientists Grow 3D 'Mini Retinas' from Stem Cells

Stem Cell Reports

Researchers in Germany have developed a process for growing 3D retina organoids from mouse or human stem cells, providing them with new insights on retina growth, injury and repair.

ImageThese "mini retinas" are reportedly providing researchers with a more diverse way of studying retinal tissue, and also have the potential to help them develop new therapies for treating eye diseases. The full study was published online on March 31 by Stem Cell Reports.
