Vision for a Nation Helps Over 1M People in Rwanda

U.K. nonprofit Vision for a Nation (VFAN) recently announced it has helped over 1 million people access eye care services in Rwanda, helping the country's Ministry of Health successfully build an affordable nationwide eye care service that is locally available to all of Rwanda's 10.5 million people.

The eye care service is reportedly offered at all of Rwanda's 502 local health centers by certified nurses trained by VFAN to provide eye care. A nationwide outreach program was launched in 2015, extending the service to 100 percent of Rwanda's 15,000 villages to help maximize awareness and address the backlog of need. To date, over 1.2 million eye screenings, 560,000 medical prescriptions, 144,000 referrals to specialists, and 109,000 pair of glasses have been provided through this service.
