The Vision Council Releases Findings from Digital Eye Strain Survey

The Vision Council recently released findings from its nationwide survey on digital eye strain and blue light, finding 73.5 percent of participants did not know eyewear could be used to help protect their eyes from the short- and long-term effects of blue light exposure and digital eye strain.

Of the almost 10,000 Americans surveyed, 87 percent said they used digital devices for more than two hours each day, with over 52 percent saying they regularly used two digital devices at the same time. And 68.5 percent reported they had not discussed their digital device usage with their eyecare provider.

And when it came to children, 76.5 of parents surveyed said their children were in front of a screen for more than two hours each day, with more than half — 55.6 percent — reporting their children experienced symptoms of digital eye strain after two hours of screen time. And although 78.3 percent of parents are worried about the impact digital devices can have on their children, only 29.1 percent took their child for an annual eye exam as part of getting ready to go back to school.
