OneSight Expands Vision Care Access in China, Plans Optometry Student Clinic in Tanzania

OneSight — a global nonprofit 501(c)(3) sponsored and founded by Luxottica — recently announced an expansion of vision care access to rural China, an upcoming clinic for optometry students in Tanzania, and a successful clinic in San Diego which provided eye exams and glasses to 1,600 students.

In China, OneSight plans to expand its partnership with Stanford University’s Rural Education Action Program (REAP) to provide vision care access to 18 million people by 2020. Over the next four years, OneSight and Smart Focus -- a REAP organization dedicated to expanding vision care access -- will reportedly partner to open up 40 vision centers across the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces in rural China, as well as conduct research studies to measure the impact of vision care on education, economic development and quality of life for patients who receive glasses.

Luxottica Retail N.A. will partner with the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) to create a special OneSight clinic for optometry students in Tanzania from May 5-13, 2017. The clinic will reportedly give students a first-hand opportunity to experience the global vision crisis and work alongside a multinational team to help 2,500 patients in the Dar Es Salaam region.
