SCCO at Ketchum U Receives Grant for Enhancements and Scholarships

The Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) of Marshall B. Ketchum University recently received a $750,000 grant to help support academic and clinical technology enhancements, provide recruitment scholarships, and upgrade equipment at the university's regional Los Angeles clinic.

The grant is reportedly the single largest private foundation gift the school has ever received in support of its optometry college. Funding will be used to directly support the University Eye Center enterprise and technology for enhanced pre-clinical teaching, and a number of scholarships will be created for academic year 2017-2018.

The gift reportedly honors SCCO alum Dr. Jonathan Smith for his years of dedicated board service as a trustee of the Reynolds Foundation — a national philanthropic organization that supports nonprofit organizations and institutions. SCCO reportedly plans to name its third academic lecture hall on campus after Dr. Smith.
