Fort Worth, Texas, July 18, 2016 – Alcon, the global leader in eye care and a division of Novartis, introduces DAILIES Total1® Multifocal contact lenses designed for people with presbyopia. This breakthrough water gradient lens is designed to provide seamless distant, intermediate and near vision and, exceptional comfort to this patient group of nearly 2 billion people worldwide.1,4-6
Presbyopia generally begins after age 401; and many contact lens wearers discontinue use of contact lenses at this time due to dryness, discomfort and vision issues.2-3 The compromises of presbyopia are a challenge for both contact lens wearers and eye care professionals. “Wearers over age 40 want to continue wearing contact lenses but require more comfort and seamless vision as they develop presbyopia”, said Carla Mack, OD, MBA, FAAO, Director of Professional & Clinical Support at Alcon. “DAILIES Total1 contact lenses pair patented water gradient material with our industry-leading Precision Profile™ multifocal design offering a comfortable, younger-looking alternative to reading glasses.”
The advanced features of DAILIES Total1 Multifocal are designed to address the specific vision needs of presbyopes: the water gradient material uniquely reduces end-of-day dryness4,5 as the water content approaches 100% at the outermost surface of the lens.5,6 The hydrophilic surface gel of the lens is almost as soft as the human corneal epithelium to provide exceptional comfort.6,11,12
The innovative optical design of Alcon’s multifocal Precision Profile™ technology offers a smooth progression of power designed to provide a seamless experience between distant, intermediate and near vision.13 This lens profile is also available in Alcon’s AIR OPTIX® AQUA Multifocal and DAILIES® AquaComfort Plus® Multifocal contact lenses and offers a 96% fit success rate.14*
DAILIES Total1 Multifocal contact lenses are designed for people with presbyopia and are for use on a daily disposable basis. The contact lenses are available with a power range of +3.00D to -6.00D (in 0.25D steps) and three ADD powers (LO, MED, HI) with expanded parameters to follow to match the rest of Alcon’s multifocal portfolio (+6.00D to -10.00D in 0.25D steps). The lenses are currently available.
Additionally, beginning on August 1st, Alcon is launching a first of its kind program, Alcon Dailies® Choice, for new patients. It is designed to help eye care professionals provide more of their patients with access to a healthy and convenient choice through a significant savings on all Alcon daily disposable contact lenses, including the new DAILIES Total1® Multifocal contact lenses. The program offers a high-value rebate of up to $200 off a patient’s first annual supply purchase.* For more information about the program, please visit DAILIESCHOICE.com.

About Presbyopia15
Presbyopia is the gradual decline of eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects, causing the objects to appear blurry and out of focus. Much like adjusting the focus on a camera, the natural lens within the eye of persons under 40 years of age changes shape to properly focus on objects at different distances. But as eyes age, they lose their ability to adjust, resulting in diminished up-close vision. Presbyopia develops gradually, with most people developing symptoms by their early to mid-40s. The most common symptoms of presbyopia are blurred vision at normal reading distance particularly in dim light, including while wearing normal glasses or contact lenses, headaches, eyestrain and fatigue while reading or doing close-up work. Nearly everyone experiences presbyopia; scientists believe this to be a natural part of aging that affects everyone; however, there are many treatment options for presbyopia.
