Here’s a round-up of some of the latest news in the ophthalmic and contact lens markets.

Starting August 1st, Alcon launched a new daily disposable contact lens savings program for patients (read the official press release below). Called Alcon Dailies® Choice, the new program is reportedly designed to help ECPs provide more patients with access to healthy and convenient choices with savings on all Alcon daily disposable contact lenses, including the new Dailies Total1® Multifocal contact lenses. Through the program, patients can reportedly obtain a high-value rebate of up to $200 of a patient's first annual supply purchase. For more information on the program, visit DailiesChoice.com.  This announcement comes on the heels of Alcon's recent introduction of its Dailies Total1 Multifocal contact lenses designed for people with presbyopia.

Comfort Vision has launched a 90-pack configuration for its ProOcular™ daily disposable contact lenses. These contact lenses feature a polymacon material and daily Dual Aspheric Lens design. Originally only available in 30-pack cartons, the company decided to add the 90-pack option based on feedback from ECPs.

Essilor of America recently announced it has acquired a majority stake in whole optical lab U.S. Optical. According to an Essilor spokesperson, the partnership will help complement Essilor's U.S. offerings and broaden distribution of its Varilux® lenses and other value-added products. U.S. Optical will reportedly continue to run in the manner it has been since its inception.

Vision Dynamics recently announced it was expanding its permaTINT™ Line of pre-tinted semi-finished single vision lens blanks to include 1.67. The 1.67 permaTINT product is available in 2, 4 6 and 8 base and three colors — grey C, brown C and green-grey 15. Designed to be an option for sport, computer and driving prescriptions, the lenses integrate easily in conventional and digital surfacing lines.

Vision Ease recently introduced its new Clear Blue Filter™ FSV Lenses polycarbonate stock lenses available in 65mm and 75mm diameter from +4.00 to -8.00 spheres out to -2.00 cylinder. The new lenses provide 100 percent UV protection (400 nm) and filter high-energy blue light through a filtering properties built directly into the lens itself. They are also reportedly the only clear lens in the industry to receive the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Approval.
