 The Lens Update – June 29, 2016

Here's a look at some of the latest news regarding the ophthalmic and contact lens industries.

  • Optical lab supplies and equipment manufacturer and distributor Practical Systems, Inc. (PSI) was recently selected to be the authorized distributor in North, Central, and South America for The Don Company, Ltd. of Korea. PSI will reportedly market and provide technical assistance and inventory for the Don Company's hard coat, AR and hydrophobic consumables.
  • Earlier this month, Transitions announced its Transitions® Signature® VII Flat Top 28 polycarbonate composite lenses were now being offered in both gray and brown exclusively from Younger Optics (see press release below) Brown is reportedly a top color choice for many patients, which allows ECPs to offer more choices for patients who wear polycarbonate bifocals.
  • Bausch + Lomb (B+L) was recently named the most trusted brand when it came to contact lens solutions by the 2016 BrandSpark Canadian Shopper Study, ranking high amongst consumers due to a high level of quality and performance as well as the amount of recommendations received from their optometrists.
  • Essilor Sun Solution — the Essilor Group division dedicated to both sun plano and prescription lenses — recently released three mini-movies aimed at describing specific characteristics of their lenses: anti-glare, anti-smudge and anti-scratch (see press release below).
