New OD School Planned for Illinois

Midwestern University

Midwestern University recently announced it will open a new college of optometry on its Downers Grove Campus in Illinois.

ImageCalled the Chicago College of Optometry (CCO), the university has reportedly received approval from both the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education to begin offering its new Doctor of Optometry professional degree program. The university has also named Dr. Sunny Sanders as dean of CCO.

Over the next 18 months, the university plans to launch a public awareness and student recruitment campaign, as well as begin construction on a new state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory facility specifically designed to meet the needs of optometry faculty and students. Interested students may apply to the school through the OptomCAS website beginning in July 2016, and the inaugural class of 60 students at CCO will begin their studies in the fall of 2017.
