Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Announces Expanded Parameters for ACUVUE® OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses for ASTIGMATISM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 13, 2014) – Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. today announced that effective April 15, 2014, ACUVUE® OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses for ASTIGMATISM will be available in more parameters, providing doctors with a range of options to provide coverage for 98 percent of spherical and astigmatic patients.1

“Research confirms that nearly half of all patients requiring vision correction have clinically significant levels of astigmatism in at least one eye2,” says W. Lee Ball, O.D., FAAO, associate director, Professional Affairs, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. “With additional parameters of ACUVUE® OASYS® Brand for ASTIGMATISM, more patients can experience the exceptional comfort of HYDRACLEAR® PLUS Technology and the visual stability of our revolutionary BLINK STABILIZEDTM Design.”

Effective April 15, parameters are being expanded to include -6.00 to +6.00 in 0.25D steps (Cylinders: -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, -2.25; Axis: Full circle in 10o steps) and from -6.50 to -9.00 in 0.50 steps Cylinders: -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, -2.25; Axis: Full circle in 10o steps).

With the introduction of these new parameters, the company also announced that effective March 31, 2014, diagnostic lenses for ACUVUE® ADVANCE® Brand Contact Lenses for ASTIGMATISM will no longer be available from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.

“In a clinical trial with ACUVUE® ADVANCE® Brand for ASTIGMATISM contact lens wearers, virtually 100 percent of patients had a prescription match and 100 percent of patients had first fit success with ACUVUE® OASYS® for ASTIGMATISM,3” adds Dr. Ball.

ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are indicated for vision correction.  As with any contact lens, eye problems, including corneal ulcers, can develop. Some wearers may experience mild irritation, itching or discomfort. Lenses should not be prescribed if patients have any eye infection, or experience eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, redness or other eye problems.
