Microsoft Designs Free App for Blind and Low Vision Community

Microsoft has designed a new free app called Seeing AI designed for the blind and low vision community that uses artificial intelligence to describe nearby people, text and objects around them.

The Seeing AI app reportedly uses artificial intelligence and the camera on the user's smartphone. Some of its functions include reading documents, including spoken hints, to capture all corners of a document to capture the full page, and recognizing images within other apps. Additionally, the app can recognize people based on their face and provide a description of their visual appearance, and can identify products by barcode. Seeing AI also reportedly has an experimental feature that can describe a scene around a person, and will eventually be able to identify currency bills.

The new app is currently available to iPhone users in the U.S., Canada, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore, with more availability to be added over time.
