New Tool Helps Predict Puppies Most Suited for Guide Dog Training

Researchers from the University of Nottingham have developed a tool to help trainers predict a puppy's likelihood of successfully completing guide dog training.

The test was reportedly developed and tested as part of a £500k epidemiology research collaboration between the university and the UK-based nonprofit Guide Dogs. Called the Puppy Training Supervisor Questionnaire (PTSQ), the questionnaire-style decision tool helps guide dog trainers monitor and evaluate their dog's behavior. According to researchers, the tool successfully predicted training outcomes in 16.9 percent of young dogs of 5 to 12 months old to an accuracy of 84 percent.
