New Study Finds Video Games Can Help Kids with Low Vision See Better

A new study by researchers at the University of Rochester and Vanderbilt University has found children with low vision see vast improvement in their peripheral vision after only eight hours of training with kid-friendly video games.

For the study, researchers focused on certain aspects of action video games (AVGs), which had been shown in previous studies to help improve visual acuity. The vision scientists reportedly developed their own training game using these specific aspects of AVGs that would compel players to pay attention to their entire visual field and not just where their vision was most impaired. According to researchers, this results in an up to 50 percent improvement in visual perception tasks.
