UAB Holds Dinner in the Dark to Provide Understanding of Vision Impairment

The University of Alabama at Birmingham's (UAB) support group for those with vision impairments recently held its second annual Dinner in the Dark to help raise awareness and understanding of the daily challenges those with visual impairments face.

Hosted by UAB Connections, nearly 50 participants — including friends, family and healthcare providers such as ophthalmology and optometry physicians and residents — were blindfolded as they ate dinner, along with support group members with real visual impairments. Event organizers believe the event is educational and positively impacts people's understanding of vision impairment in a social and hands-on atmosphere.
