UA Study Finds Inhibition Decline in Older Adults Can Lead to Vision Changes

A team of researchers led by the University of Arizona has found a decline in inhibition in older patients can have an impact on their vision.

According to researchers, inhibition is the ability to inhibit other thoughts in order to pursue the storyline. Through their research, they found a lower level of inhibition can have an impact on a patient's visual perception. When shown a series of symmetrical white-on-black silhouettes, older participants took longer in identifying what the objects were than the younger participants, supporting the idea that older adults experience age-related deficits in inhibition related to vision.

The study was published in the May 2016 issue of the Journal of Vision.
