The Frame Update — March 30, 2017

Every first and third —and fifth! — Thursday of the month, we will take a look at the latest collections in the eyewear industry. Enjoy the read!

Area98

Area98 recently unveiled the new spring/summer 2017 collection for its La Matta brand, designed for the modern and sensual woman who likes to stand out. Standouts from the collection include model LM3195 — a large cat-eye acetate frame with matching temples embellished with small metal gems in the hinges — and LM3201 (pictured right) that features small colored gems that look like vintage jewelry embedded into the gold or silver model profiles adorning the temples. And tribal-inspired geometric decorations create an interesting design element on the temples of both models LM3202 and LM3203 with will certainly not go unnoticed.

And Area98 also recently launched new styles for the Robert Rüdger eyewear brand, featuring styles that are both sophisticated and up-to-date. Examples include the minimalist yet refined looks of models RR040 and RR041, both with an extremely subtle front in Hard Density Cellulose Acetate (HDCA). The retro-inspired RR042 frame features a rounded front and keyhole bridge using HDCA acetate, and includes a clip-on sunglass in mirrored gold or silver sun lenses. And there are also titanium models, such as RR044 with its subtle profile and clean lines, and model RR045 — a square frame made entirely from horn and embellished with a thin titanium profile that outlines the top of the front.

BlackfinBlackfin

New from Blackfin are three new pure titanium sunglass models for spring/summer 2017. New model Gold Beach BF784 features a classic cat-eye shape with elongated front corners, reinterpreting a 1950s look in a modern key. There is also a striking vintage look to the large rounded shape of model Martinique BF778, which is given an updated touch with its double-layered eyebrow line in two different colors. And men's model Oyster Bay BF779 features rounded base two lenses with a bold eyebrow line and a chunky look lightened by the outer edge in a contrasting color that runs across the front.

Also new from Blackfin is the limited-edition sunglass model Slot BF801 (pictured left). Maintaining the philosophy of a pure titanium front, combined with the patented adjustable-in-length "Swordfish" beta-titanium temples, the frame embraces the lens through the metal's flexibility using no screws or locks. The frame is available in three color combos — brown with gold inside, midnight blue with dove grey inside, chalk white with dove grey inside — all with gold mirrored, graduated-tint lenses.
