The Frame Update — December 1, 2016

Every first and third Thursday of the month, we will take a look at the latest collections in the eyewear industry. Enjoy the read!

Altair Eyewear

Altair Eyewear recently introduced six new ophthalmic styles for men and women for its Winter 2016 eyewear collection. Durable titanium metal and masculine rectangular shapes provide a comfortable fit with a modern appeal in three styles for men — the semi-rimless rectangular shaped A4041, and full-time titanium classic or rounded rectangular shaped A4042 and A4043. Marble temples, pearl colorations and delicate stone details perfectly adorn three styles for women: the handmade acetate A5036 with a modified rectangle shape; semi-rimless metal with a delicate oval shape A5037; and acetate with a trendy cat eye A5038.

Altair also has six new ophthalmic styles for its Genesis Winter 2016 collection. The new styles include two full-rim rectangular-shaped brother styles for men — G4033 and G4034 — in metal or double laminate acetate fronts with metal trim detailing on the temples. And for women there are four new styles, including G5035 and G5036 (pictured right) — full-rim rectangular-shaped sister styles with pearlized colorations and milky, two-toned temples. The new G5037 is a full-time acetate frame with a subtle raised floral pattern and crystal detailing, and the G5038 also has the subtle raised floral pattern in a semi-rimless frame.

CharmantCharmant

Charmant recently introduced five new optical styles for its Isaac Mizrahi New York eyewear collection, featuring options in a mix of materials that reflect the uptown sophistication and tastes of today’s modern woman. Style IM30002 is a deep, soft square frame, while the combo metal/acetate IM30010 is a style for trendsetters with bold and exaggerated brow lines. IM30006 (pictured left) features the classic cat-eye in colorways such as black with polka dots, faux denim print and warm berry red, while IM30015 sees the cat-eye reimagined in a stainless-steel frame. And style IM30008 is all about drama with an oversized and abstract cat-eye in thick, high-quality acetate.

ClearVisionClearVision Optical

ClearVision Optical recently introduced new three new styles for the Ellen Tracy fall/winter eyewear collection, featuring polished designs, sophisticated shapes, and a rich, jewel-toned color palette. The new Amsterdam style is a sleek, metal combo frame with a modified square shape, multicolored acetate temples, and textured metal front. Newcastle (pictured right) is a modified square acetate frame with a textured metal design along the front and temples that take inspiration from nature. And the semi-rimless Singapore features lace-inspired printed temples and oval-shaped accents for a touch of flair.

Also new from ClearVision Optical are 11 new active styles for IZOD, all featuring a clean, classic look using a variety of materials including carbon fiber, TR-90, and rubber. Standouts from the collection include the acetate IZOD 2018 frame with a rectangular eye shape and temples made of TR-90. The youthful IZOD 2022 acetate frame features fade coloration on the front and contrasting pops of color on the temples. And PFX 3013 is a classically sporty style with perforated temples and end pieces inspired by the texture of a golf ball.

EasternStatesEastern States Eyewear

New from Eastern States Eyewear are seven new optical styles for its Été Lunettes collection. Four of the new style are within the brand's Feather Collection, which uses natural feathers inserted by-hand in between sheets of crystal acetate for its unique coloration. Examples include the new Aston (pictured left) with a layered acetate front featuring detailed feather work, and the new Murles style that uses feathers for a touch of asymmetry that cannot be achieved through typical acetate colors. And the other three styles are within the brand's Plexiglass Collection, which featured engravings done one-by-one through the use of a handheld micro-cutter with coloration (via syringe) applied thereafter.

EblockEblock Italia

New from Eblock Italia is the Side collection, featuring festive eyewear for the holiday season of glitter, gold and red. The collection consists of metal frames that play with contrasting color finishes between the inside and outside, in tonalities that are softer and more natural than those in the Original collection. Standouts include the Side Circle EB-512_S133 cat-eye frames featuring a shower of glitter for a festive look, and the Side One EB-105_S18 (pictured right) in an eye-catching red hue.

KomonoKomono

Belgian watch and eyewear brand Komono recently introduced its Core and Crafted sunglasses collections for Spring/Summer 2017 (pictured left). For its SS17 Core collection, Komono ventured into the unique North African landscape of Marrakech. New options include the Finley featuring a clean, utilitarian metal aesthetic, and the Hollis that borrows harsh mechanical beauty and soft-edged forms from the Komono timepiece collection. And SS17 Crafted Collection is a perfect blend of pure balance, architectural vision and depth of detail with five new styles. The Shaun is a geometric anomaly stuck somewhere between round, square and octagonal, while the Damon frame is distinct from every angle. The Alex is a neutral addition with aviator DNA, the Gilles is a premium unisex frame, and the Luca is a classic frame perfectly balanced exercise in size, shape and style.

Designed in a two-tone palette, the thin plastic and lightweight metal frames are intentionally designed for a youthful audience. The new Asia pattern features verses from an ancient Japanese song, while Amor carries the words of a poem by Goethe. The new Bouquet pattern features a pastoral theme with the names of flowers, and Jardin quotes romantic words of love from a poem by the same name by Jacques Prévert.

RetrosuperfutureRetrosuperfuture

New from SUPER by Retrosuperfuture is a limited set with seasonal favorite Akin (pictured left). Akin Forma is a refined contemporary silhouette in metal and acetate, characterized by a balanced combination of materials that ensure lightness, resilience and flexibility. The unique construction of the frames results in a translucent acetate structure with a frontal piece that looks as if it has been crafted out of a single piece of ultra flat lens. Akin Forma is available in two chromatic variations -- a shiny silver and a flashy gold -- with a tone-on-tone finish for the temples and base zero mirrored lenses.

SafiloSafilo Group

Safilo recently launched its new Polaroid Kids ophthalmic collection (pictured right), which complements the company's Polaroid sunglasses offerings for children in the 6 to 12 age range. Providing parents with a playful and accessibly priced collection, the U.S. launch collection features six styles offered in three colorways. All the styles are offered in eye-catching colors — such as Transparent Cherry, Violet, Azure and Brown Havana — in either handmade acetate or acetate/steel combinations, designed to appeal to both kids and their parents.

TuraTura

Tura is getting a head start on 2017 with the launch of sunwear collections for its signature brands Tura, Ted Baker, Lulu Guinness, and Brendel. The Tura 2017 Sun Collection all have elements of fine jewelry, such as TURA 069 with a sheet metal top brown line inlayed with enamel and outlined in shiny gold, the jeweled acetate TURA 070 (pictured left) with bold Swarovski crystal decorated temples, and the jeweled aviator TURA 071 with a jewelry rope detail outlining the lenses and temples.

For the new Ted Baker Sunwear collection it's all about retro shapes, including the new TB107 retro-inspired cat eye, TB108 style's retro shape inspired by the original Club Master style, and TB111 retro aviator. The new 2017 Lulu Guinness Sun Collection is for the woman who loves to express her individuality, featuring a bold cat eye design with model L138, hundreds of glittering crystals inlayed into the new L142 style, and style L141 featuring acetate with inlayed glitter fabric. And the latest styles from the Brendel sunwear collection are striking, modern and chic, such as the acetate style 906086 with a very soft cat eye look, the color mix of crystal and marble acetate for a color-block effect in style 906087, and the modern retro feel of style 906097.

WooDoneWooDone

Just in time for the holidays, WooDone has launched a special "Bling" coating (pictured right). Both styles Light Blind and Dark Blind from the Dolomite collection are covered in Galena — a typical stone from the Dolomiti Mountains that is reduced to dust and placed on the frame's surface as a special coating. When the light hits the frames, the stone particles light up with thousands of reflections for a spectacular sheen.

Zimco OpticsZimco Optics

Zimco Optics recently released the third generation of its Retro collection, featuring contemporary adaptations of classic looks. Constructed to be as adaptable as possible, the collection features not only traditional designs such as the classic rectangle, but also updated styles with contrasting shapes like modified rounds and cat-eyes — such as model R182 (pictured left) — updated with striking colors, modern materials and lightweight construction.
