The Frame Update — September 29, 2016

Every first and third — and now fifth! — Thursday of the month, we will take a look at the latest collections in the eyewear industry. Enjoy the read!

A&A Optical

A&A Optical recently released two new ophthalmic styles for its luxury collection Jimmy Crystal New York™. The jewelry-inspired acetate frame Bordeaux shines bright with Swarovski crystal and baroque metal accents, while Riga is a modified oval frame crowned with multi-layered acetate, coordinating crystals and metal accent pieces.

Also new from A&A are two new styles from Crocs™ Eyewear. Model CF4312 is a modified rectangle frame that combines materials and complimentary color shades for a sophisticated, yet casual, look.  And the light and airy CF4314 frame features a classic shape in a fashion-forward design with a hidden hinge and combination temples.

And A&A has also released two new ophthalmic frames for its Seventy one™ eyewear collection. The Bellarmine frame (pictured right) evokes an organic and bold look thanks to engineer wood grain and nature inspired hues, available in Blue Ash, Pink Dogwood and Walnut. And the sophisticated Cabrini is a semi-rimless oval frame with contrasting accent color with tinted wire and concave dots on the upper temples.

AdlensAdlens

Adlens® recently unveiled an exciting new look for its AdlensRX Focuss™ line (pictured left) — the first eyewear to feature Variable Power Optics (VPO™) technology that mimics the eye’s natural dynamic behavior and allows patients to adjust their vision between near, intermediate and distance at the turn of a dial, offering four times more viewing area than the leading progressive lenses. The company unveiled a new brand identity and updated logo, as well as a more sophisticated color palette.

Area98Area98

New from the Area98 brand KAOS is model KK395 (pictured right) — a metal feminine frame with a classic, yet jaunty design. The frame's thick-profiled rim plays on the chromatic contrasts between the inside and outside of the frame, and the same nuances are taken from acetates used for the temples and gems applied to a metal plate.

CostaCosta

Known for their sunwear, Costa has recently launched its first optical eyeglass collection that will feature the brand's signature performance attributes along with stylish design as a variety of price points. The initial collection features 36 SKUs in five distinct collections. Examples include the Ocean Ridge collection (pictured left) of colorful, lightweight sport nylon frames, Mariana Trench collection made from handcrafted acetate in on-trend styles and colors, and the titanium Seamount collection featuring minimalistic rimless styles.

ImageEastern States Eyewear

Eastern States Eyewear recently released seven new styles for its Jaguar Eyewear collection, all inspired by the fine craftsmanship of the renowned automobiles. The new collection features a dynamic mix of clever details such as layered metal and acetate, laser work, and dynamic color effects, along with a variety of finishes including antique brushing, wooden effects, and both matte and shiny finishes. Styles include Jaguar Spirit 31702 (pictured right) with a retro shape and matted front, and Spirit style 33703 with an antique front that allows for a slightly 3D feel and faded color effect with an almost denim feel.

Gold and WoodGold and Wood

Gold and Wood recently released four new eyewear styles at this year's Silmo. First is a revisit of the iconic B16 with the B16 NEO 01, resulting in a modern take on an iconic model. The masculine Rome frame is a timeless urban frame with antique and brushed finishes for a unique patina. Titanium and exotic woods meet in the Titan frame (pictured left), and the feminine drill mount sunglass arrives with the new Donna.

Leisure SocietyLeisure Society by Shane Baum

New from luxury eyewear house Leisure Society by Shane Baum is the Spring 2017 collection, which pays homage to the 1930's Japanese Ama pearl divers. The collection includes five new sunglass and ophthalmic frames, two sun acetate clips and two new colorways — Pearl and Onyx. Highlights of the new collection include the Ceylon frame, which is a thin, round frame constructed out of pure gold-plated titanium and hand-enameled, and the sleek cat-eye Akoya (pictured right) with gold-plated titanium temples and an intricately enameled bridge and front.

Mosaic EyewearMosaic Eyewear

New from Mosaic Eyewear is the new s.Oliver Black Label collection (pictured left), which had been launched at Vision Expo West (VEW). The collection features clean, elegant styles with an understated fashionable edge. Designed for young modern men and women who have a feel for quality, the collection features 15 styles in three to six colorways, classic design shapes, matte/gloss combinations, and wood grain finishes.

Nouveau EyewearNouveau Eyewear

Nouveau Eyewear recently released new round and retro-inspired styles for its Van Heusen Studio collection. The four new men’s styles are available in a variety of colorways. Style S360 features a stout brow and textured temples in satin black or satin gunmetal, while S362 (pictured right) has a Clark Kent-esque deep front perfect for any would-be Superman. Style 363 features a classic round front and keyhole bridge, and S361 is all about the ultimate fit coming in size 51, 55 and 58.

LuxotticaLuxottica

Luxottica’s Persol brand recently launched the Calligrapher Edition — a collection of two optical styles and two sun styles that combine a range of quality materials to create elegant front sections with the lightness of a calligrapher's hand. Optical frame PO3167V combines metal and acetate, with a metal bridge and temples decorated with incisions inspired by the lines created by calligraphy pens. And optical acetate frame PO3168V features a squared upper part for a more contemporary, sophisticated touch. Sunwear frame PO3166S is an acetate and metal frame inspired by the art of calligraphy, and sunglass frame PO3165S (pictured left) is a sleek, square frame that uses acetates taken from the Persol archives. 

And Luxottica also recently unveiled the fall/winter 2016 collection for Vogue Eyewear, inspired by the latest trends, contemporary metals, new 3D colored effects and sophisticated embellishments. The 2015 Rainbow story is revived in the Casual Chic collection through the round female sun frame VO 5106S, elegant forms and luminous layers of VO 5103, and trendy optical shape in light nylon fiber of VO 5104-ADV. The Light and Shine collection is all about super fine, minimal metal profiles, as seen in sun shapes VO 4022S and VO 4023S-ADV and optical shape VO 4025. And the Bond collection is for the contemporary woman who loves to experiment with style, showcased by the high volume square sun shape of VO 5093SB decorated with 24 Swarovski crystals and the VO 5095B butterfly shape optical frame featuring playful color pinstripe inners and sleek bow-tie hinge décor.

ProletProlet Eyewear

Prolet Eyewear from Hamburg, Germany recently made its debut with a 3D printed eyewear collection of both optical and sun styles (pictured right). Described as "bold and unobtrusive at the same time," the collection features designs ranging from modest to eye-catching and are made by a cutting-edge 3D printing technology originally developed for aeronautics and rapid prototyping. The 3D technology also allows eyewear to be individualized for the wearer's facial contours, making each frame one-of-a-kind.

SafiloSafilo Group

New from Safilo Group is the new Dior hero style called DiorUmbrage (pictured left) — sunwear that reflects the mix of materials and patterns seen at Dior's Winter 20616 fashion show. The round-shaped sunglasses are made of a juxtaposition of Havana acetates, and each features a mirrored lens developed exclusively for Dior that reflect a bold and graphic foliage pattern. The sunglasses are available in five color palettes and also feature thin metal temples adorned with sophisticated details.

SilhouetteSilhouette

The new Elegance Collection from Silhouette unites two essential elements — a perfect design and precious materials, such as 23-carat gold plating. Starlight (pictured right) is hand-set with 50 Swarovski crystals for just the right amount of sparkle, while Caresse Pearl features a Swarovski crystal pearls and a delicate temple design for subtle sophistication. And the masculine Mosaic frame is detailed yet minimalist, giving the wearer a look of sleek elegance. 

STATE OpticalSTATE Optical Co.

STATE Optical Co. recently launched its fall/winter 2016 collection at VEW 2016, featuring six new styles representing the colorful diversity synonymous with both the city of Chicago and the fall season. Each frame is named after an iconic Chicago street, and each style is offered in four color variations, all of which denote the earthy hues abundant throughout fall. Standouts in the collection include the scholarly Sandburg, the Bellevue (pictured left) with a cat eye and vintage flair, and the laid back vibe of Ravenswood.

Wiley XWiley X

The new WX Omega Black Ops Edition (Model #ACOME01) (pictured right) is the latest member of the Active Lifestyle Series sunglass family for Wiley X®. The matte black frame features smoke grey lenses for superior visual acuity and advanced eye protection. The sunwear comes with shatterproof Selenite™ Polycarbonate lenses that meet ANSI Z87.1 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Standards, as well as 100 percent UVA/UVB protection.
