NECO Student Develops OpTranslate Mobile App

Dmitriy Richter, a third-year student at the New England College of Optometry (NECO), recently developed and launched OpTranslate — a mobile app that helps optometrists conduct eye exams on non-English speaking patients.

The OpTranslate app can reportedly be used directly in the exam room to provide patient education resources. It reportedly features a full, comprehensive eye exam split into six sections, and is available in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole languages. Additionally, the app offers additional sections for contact lens exams, binocular vision testing, and pre-written diagnoses.

OpTranslate is currently available on Google Play for Android and the Apple (iOS) app store. And additional languages — Mandarin, Russian, Hindi, Korean, and Vietnamese — are reportedly in development.
