Here’s a look at the latest news in practice management, electronic health record (EHR) and patient engagement technologies. 

  • First Insight Corporation — developers of MaximEyes EHR — ranked #2 nationwide for its ophthalmology EHR in the 2017 Black Book™ market research survey and #1 nationwide in Black Books’ “Functional Subset Honors” category for “Results Review/Management and Decision Support.”
  • Contact lens management and marketing system CLX launched a system upgrade designed to enhance its current integration with practice management system Compulink (see press release below). The latest upgrade reportedly gives any Compulink practice the capability to provide patients with mobile reorder capability.
  • CheckedUp announced the expansion of its partnership with Alcon to educate patients about cataract surgical treatment options through the CheckedUp platform. Through this partnership, CheckedUp will reportedly incorporate content about Alcon surgical products and technologies into its comprehensive cataract surgery education portfolio for delivery to patients at home (CheckedUp Reach), in the practice waiting room (CheckedUp Explorer), and in the examination room (CheckedUp Engage).
  • MedPhoto Manager — a healthcare technology firm founded by an optometrist — recently launched an iOS application that provides physicians with a secure and reliable tool for taking, storing, and sharing patient photos. Through the MedPhoto Manager app, doctors can reportedly use their own mobile devices to take images and automatically store them in a HIPAA-compliant cloud server, as well as sharing the images with other providers.
  • Web marketing company iMatrix is partnering with Compliancy Group — a provider of web-based HIPAA compliance solutions — to bring web marketing services to Compliancy Group's clients.
