Berkeley Optometry Student Wins Innovator Award for Novel Frame Inventory System

Third-year UC Berkeley School of Optometry student Ece Turhal was recently named the winner of the Berkeley Student Innovator Award for her novel frame inventory system.

Turhal's proposal, called "Meet DOT," is reportedly a novel system for frame identification and information, inventory and stock control and theft management. DOT reportedly revamps frame tagging systems by doign away with bulky tags and replacing them with unobtrusive color coded dots that change color over pre-determined time intervals, helping opticians with board management and purchasing. The dots also reportedly hide a small radio frequency chip as a security device, and they have an interactive component that allows patients to scan frames on a stationary tablet to see what other colors and sizes are available.
