A&M-Texarkana to Offer Ophthalmic Assistant/Optician Training Course

In January 2017, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, in conjunction with Texarkana Eye Associates, will offer a new 15-week ophthalmic assistant/optician training course to prepare students with the necessary skills to perform ophthalmic procedures in the office of an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

The school and Texarkana Eye Associates reportedly worked together to develop the course, which includes 60 hours of classroom and 20 hours of lab training. Those who successfully complete the course will be eligible to take the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) exam.
