3D capture and imaging company Fuel3D was recently awarded €1.7 million (£1.2 million) from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program to fund its 3D full-face scanning system for custom eyewear.
Through Fuel3D's technology, the system is able to take high-resolution 3D images through the use of pre-calibrated stereo cameras with photometric imaging. The cameras take a 270-degree 3D scan of a patient's face, allowing for accurate measurements to be taken. Fuel3D reportedly plans to build a prototype system in the first year of the project, with a move towards manufacturing the final project in the second year.
